Note by the way the similarity with "Go West", the Pet Shop Boys' version.
Not for nothing you see images of Moscow and communism in their music clip.
The melody is the same, only the rhythm has been adapted.

There is also a typical similarity in the bass line between Pachelbel's Canon and the anthem. The Canon starts: C, G, Am, Em, F, C, F/D7, G. From "Moguchaya volya / Da zdravstvuet sozdannyj" this is the same and exact line in the anthem.

Instrumental, techno version (Ogg Vorbis format):

(From http://zbynia.fm.interia.pl/download.htm)

Of course, the composer is Alexandrov, not Rimsky-Korsakov!  Angry

Another version of the official government recording, except a smaller size.

Official government recording, only one verse long.

I've heard this file several times, and I think it might be a version that the middle verses and refrains was cut out by somebody.

Can anybody confirm this?

I personally think your right, Davie, since I sometimes hear hymns with parts of it cut out.  Vadim's website has some examples of that, and also on one of the links I just posted.

You are right. To get a short vocal version of the Russian anthem (like there are instrumental versions: one verse and refrain), you have to cut in recordings. I haven't come across a vocal version of the new anthem with but one verse and refrain sung. All new vocal recordings are three verses long. This recording is also a cut version with the first sung verse and the last sung refrain.

Comment from Reinhard Popp:

Quote:

English Translation

Some days ago, I read a somewhat nonsensical discussion about the Russian anthem and its various recordings.

I have several Russian CDs including the anthem in 4 versions: the one-verse instrumental and choral versions and the complete, i.e. three-verse, orchestral and choral version.

Sometimes, you even hear the one-verse version only!

Several records with one verse of the anthem both in the orchestral and choral version also existed in the USSR – why not?

True, many one verse recordings are out there, and those are easy to find.  But as for this new hymn of Russia, I do not know why all the recordings have more than one verse on them.  I do not know if they are trying to introduce the hymn to the population, or just love to sing all of the verses, since the hymn can be quite short sometimes.

The first three recordings are available on Vadim Makarov's site, but I can't find the last one there.

Yes, two files with Anita's interpretation are available in Vadim's (Vlad's?) museum (honestly, I found the above link this way):
  • directly from singer's website (corresponding to the link in my post)
  • recorded from daily broadcast on Russian Radio in February 2005.
The first version has better sound quality.

Nikolai Rastorguev is the lead singer of the band Lubeh, who is also featured on Vadim's site.
