Unavailable as of 2006-11-30.

Nice instrumental arrangement, played by the Symphonic Band of the Belgian Air Force:
http://home2.planetinternet.be/crepal/audio/128/brabanconne.mp3
(From http://home2.planetinternet.be/crepal/compact%20disc/golden%20jubilee.htm)

The above arrangement of the Brabançonne recorded on the Air Force Jubilee CD was requested by the former King Baudouin and is now the official version for symphony orchestra, too. The original spirited interpretation is hardly heard any more – a practice that not exactly supports vocal renditions of the anthem (which is not easy to sing anyway).

Thanks to Reinhard Popp for this information.

SHAPE Flag Raising Ceremony

The Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe held a formal ceremony on April 15, 2004 to welcome its seven newest members. Gen. James L. Jones, the Supreme Commander Allied Powers Europe, presided over the ceremony in which the flags of Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia were proudly raised into the NATO family of nations.

The video includes the national anthems of the seven new members and of the host nation Belgium.

"Belgium Rules", a free interpretation of the Brabançonne by Parodiac.

Please download the file from the source.

Source: http://music.download.com/parodiac/3600-8263_32-100629085.html?tag=listing_song_...

Quote:
From the Artist: A rendition of the Belgian national anthem (the Brabançonne) to celebrate the 175th birthday of the Belgian independence on July 21, 2005. This anthem is normally played by a brass band. Here Parodiac does something close, but different.

Note: The first clause is slightly incorrect. Belgium declared its independence from the Netherlands in 1830, but Prince Leopold of Saxony-Coburg-Gotha took the oath as King Leopold I of Belgium on 1831-07-21.

Also, doesn't she sing the FOURTH German verse, not the third one which is the official one?  And she flubs whole lines as well.  Sad

Yes, she sings a mutilated version of the (actually unsingable!) fourth German verse. However, I would be careful with the term "official" in connection with this anthem …

The language used in this clip is Flemmish. Although derived from Dutch, it is a language in its own right and one of the three official languages of Belgium. The others being French and German.

I have been confused about this for some time. Some of my Belgian friends claim that the language of the anthem is "Nederlands" [Dutch], and that when they refer to "Flemish" they mean a dialect that is practically unintelligible to foreigners. I had always thought that "Flemish" refers to a language that is only very slightly distinguished from Dutch, analogous to the difference between Dutch and Afrikaans. Can you shed light on this issue?

Check out the article at Wikipedia:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flemish_%28linguistics%29

A brief summary: Despite the widespread contemporary usage of the term "Vlaams" as for 'Dutch as spoken in Belgium', it is not considered as a separate language by linguists, but rather as a limited group of non-standardized dialects.

Note that for example the website of the Belgian Embassy in Berlin uses "Nederlands" and "Français" for its different language options: http://www.diplomatie.be/berlin/ - Button "Sprachen"
